Jewellery Design and Handcrafting
Welcome to my first jewellery design and handcrafting blog. My name’s Edward and I’m excited to share my knowledge with you. In the past, this information has been reserved for my private clientele.
Before I talk about my first subject, I think it’s very important to qualify and introduce myself, so you get a good idea of the experience behind my comments.
I am an award-winning jewellery designer and master jewellery craftsman with 40 years of experience. As a master craftsman, I have passionately pursued my desire to design all types of jewellery with a cutting edge of design uniqueness and producing handcrafted pieces to world class standards and qualities.
Now, it would be impossible for me to make you an overnight jewellery expert, so let’s look at the most important issues one step at a time that you are going to face as a consumer.
It doesn’t matter what type of jewellery, or for what occasion you are buying a piece of jewellery. It could be an engagement ring, wedding bands, an anniversary, a gift, or just simply spoiling yourself.
This knowledge will change the way you think about jewellery qualities and values forever.
Now, let’s take a look at the subjects I am going to cover; I think it will be easier to digest if I separate the subjects below into categories, and blogs. If you like the first installment, stay tuned for the following subjects as they need to be combined to give you the full picture.
- The difference between one-off bespoke jewellery designs and the impersonal mass market retail store approach.
- What is handcrafted jewellery anyway? What is Cad Cam jewellery production?
- What are the hidden facts about white gold that you are not being told?
- Why is it so critical that form meets function for jewellery design?
The difference between one-off bespoke jewellery designs and the impersonal mass market retail store approach…
Have you been looking in jewellery stores and just been underwhelmed with the creative selection and uninspiring duplication that you see everywhere? Well there is a good reason for that!
Almost all the jewellery that you see in the shops is mass production jewellery, and they come from the same small group of production companies in Australia, India, Thailand and China; no wonder it all looks the same.
In my personal encounters with hundreds of our clients over many years, one thing is clear; people hate the lack of choice and personalisation they have, which is why they have been searching for 3 to 6 months or longer without making a decision and becoming increasingly frustrated. Does this sound like you?
The great news is, this is not your only choice and let me explain. There are many jewellery boutiques, design studios and manufacturing workshops tucked away that offer custom made jewellery services (just like our business). It all starts with the calibre of designer you’re working with and what creativity they can bring to your personal vision. How well they can translate your ideas into a complete design, not the designer’s vision, or a computer screen supermarket of hundreds of pre-loaded designs.
Imagine sitting in a jewellery design studio with the designer and personally talking about all your likes and dislikes, discussing design direction and options with an expert, and then being presented with your jewellery design in the form of a hand drawn and personalised range of sketches that can then be refined as part of your creative journey.
This uniquely designed and personalised jewellery design can then be either handcrafted or CAD CAM produced into your very own one-off piece of jewellery that is an extension of you and your personality.
And that brings me to my next blog subject; what is handcrafted jewellery anyway? What is Cad Cam jewellery production?
If you really care about the quality and security of the ring or other pieces of jewellery that are holding your precious diamonds or gemstones in place, you need to read my next blog.
I look forward to sharing my expertise and knowledge with you.
